Don't Cry For Argentina
My friends in Argentina say Javier Milei offers the best hope in years for positive economic reform
About a year ago, HardmoneyJim hosted an enlightening conversation on inflation with two very smart Argentinians: Maria Marty, the CEO of the AynRand Centre LATAM, and her brother Eduardo Marty, an accomplished professor of economics who has worked and taught all over Latin America. Their message then was a cautionary tale for Americans: the inflation raging in Argentina could happen here.
On December 15 - barely a year later - we held a follow-up call covering the astonishing rise to power of Javier Milei, a staunch advocate of free markets and sound money, who on December, who on December 6 was overwhelmingly elected as Argentina’s new President by a popular margin of 55.5%. This development has stunned analysts and pundits, including my two friends, Maria and Eduardo.
I've attached our one-hour conversation, which you can enjoy at 1.25x. You might be surprised to learn who may have propelled Milei’s conversion from a mainstream economist to a champion of free markets.
You can find Maria Marty on Facebook or LinkedIn. Eduardo Marty can also be found on LinkedIn and recently interviewed with the libertarian activist Gloria Alvarez on the Reason podcast channel. Both Maria and Eduardo invite you to contact them through these channels.

Thank you, Jim, for bringing this episode. I wish Argentina well and hope they become a new beacon for the world.
PS We should go visit. I'm very interested to experience what's going on there first hand (and I'm also interested in seeing El Salvador along the way. Huge change in that country as well).
Thank you Jim. I am interested to see how the next 6 years turn out for Argentina. I'm hoping they will be better off and it will be a start of a libertarian golden age in Latin America.
